Announcing the Barbara J. Raskin Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Art Under Apartheid is giving away scholarships for three students from Tel Rumeida, Hebron.
My mother, Barbara Raskin, was an elementary school teacher. While I was growing up, she created an environment that encouraged learning and creativity by giving me art projects and many books to read. From 2006-2008 I was given the opportunity to teach art and to pass these projects along to young people in the Tel Rumeida district of Hebron. When my students asked me “where did I learn these art projects?” I answered “my mother taught me!”
I would like to continue my mother’s spirit of encouraging creativity and education in the form of a scholarships to university students in Tel Rumeida. The scholarship will cover the university tuition and will be renewable each semester provided the students maintain at least a “B” average. Scholarships are initially awarded based upon grades, economic need, and an essay contest. Money will be transferred directly to the university bank account.
